So excited for you to try these Better than Boxed Gluten-Free Brownies!
It is a super quick and easy recipe for homemade chocolate brownies that you will love so much, you can say good-bye to searching for a great boxed brownie mix and say hello to the only brownie recipe you’ll need!
They are chocolaty, the perfect balance between chewy and fudgy (with a fudgier option!) and so yummy!
Plus they have that signature crinkly top that makes you want them even more somehow!
And as this has become our go-to chocolate brownie recipe, we have made it many times and have an option for making them fudgier as well!
People seem to have very strong opinions about what makes the perfect brownie texture.
Some like them cakey, some chewy, some fudgy, or any combination!
We love a texture that’s somewhere between chewy and fudgy (below, left) but have options on the recipe for making them fudgier (below, right).
No matter your preference, they are always delicious, and this recipe for Better than Boxed Gluten-Free Brownies is quick and easy!
So let’s make them!
Before we get to the ingredients, I want to point out that there is a cooking video on this page so you can see how easy they are to make.
And as with all our recipes, there is a printable recipe with exact measurements and directions at the bottom of the page.
All you need is 10 ingredients you probably already have in your pantry:
butter or dairy free butter
dark chocolate chips
eggs
cane sugar
brown sugar
vanilla extract
gluten-free all purpose flour with xanthan gum (we use GFJules, affiliate link)
baking powder
salt
cocoa powder (100% cacao)
There is not a lot of flour in these because the brownies are chewy and fudgy versus cakey, but there is a little and you may have noticed that we are affiliate for GFJules. To learn more about why we love GFJules flour and why we have used it for 10 years, click here.
Bonus: at the bottom of that post is a one-time use affiliate Discount Code.
And importantly, purchasing through an affiliate link does not change your cost at all. It generates a small percentage of the sale for me, and purchasing through an affiliate link helps me fund this website and all the recipes I share, so thank you!
Back to the Better than Boxed Gluten-Free Brownies…
They together quickly and in 5 simple steps:
First, slowly melt the butter and chocolate on low heat.
Let them melt naturally and don’t rush the process so that the result is a silky smooth rich looking chocolate mixture.
Meanwhile,
beat the egg until light and fluffy.
add in both sugars and mix until well combined.
then add in the eggs, melted chocolate mix and vanilla
lastly, mix in the the dry ingredients.
That’s it!
Pour into the pan and bake!
Super quick and easy recipe!
Pro Tip: As for baking, I recommend covering them at 25 minutes so that the tops stays soft and crinkly but the center continues to bake.
And I give a 5 minute range for total baking depending on if you want a fudgier or chewier brownie.
And that’s it!
Let them cool in the baking pan, slice into them and enjoy!
You’ll have gluten-free chocolate brownies with that perfect chewy-fudgy texture and amazing flavor!
And if you store them in a sealed container they will stay fresh for a few days!

½cup + 2 tablespoons**gluten free all purpose flour with xanthan gum we used GFJules (affiliate link) ** for fudgier brownies use only 1/2 cup, skip the extra 2 tablespoons flour
¼teaspoonbaking powder
½teaspoonsalt
2tablespooncocoa powder (100% cacao)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line an 8x8 square metal pan with parchment paper so that it hangs over the edges or tucks in. Set aside.
Melt butter and chocolate chips together over very low heat, stirring occasionally. Set aside and cool slightly.
In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs until light and fluffy.
Add in both sugars and mix to combine well.
Add chocolate mixture and vanilla. Mix to combine.
Add flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Mix to combine.
Pour brownie batter into prepared baking pan and gently rock pan side to side to spread evenly.
Bake for 30-35 minutes depending on whether you want fudgier (30 minutes) or chewier (35 minutes), covering loosely at 25 minutes so that top doesn't burn. A toothpick should come out of the center clean when done.
Let cool in the pan. Remove brownies from pan by lifting out parchment paper, slice and enjoy!
Such a great question! I have never made these egg-free… I would be more inclined to try applesauce than flax or chia egg with this one… let me know if you try.

Yay! So happy everyone loved them! Thank you for sharing!
These were great. I’ve frozen some which are just as good. Will make again
Happy you love them! And I love freezing treats to hand on hand! Thank you!
These look amazing. What can I use to replace the eggs but achieve the same consistency. Flax, chia, applesauce?
