These gluten-free Crispy Spiced Brussels Sprouts with Hot Honey are a must try!
Naturally gluten-free, an easy recipe and sooooo tasty!
The brussels sprouts are simply seasoned with garam masala (a warm, fragrant Indian spice blend) + salt and roasted to crispy perfection. Then drizzled with a hot honey to add a touch of sweetness and spiciness that pairs perfectly!
The flavor is amazing! A mix of savory, sweet, spicy (as much or little as you like) and so delicious!
A little background…
I love Indian food and spices but I’ll be honest, I don’t make it often enough.
My sister-in-law recently made Melissa Clark’s Spiced Roasted Honeynut Squash + Chickpeas which was shared on Today Food and thought I’d enjoy it. I made it the next day and loved it! It was exactly the warming roasted veggie dish I was craving.
The dish used some of my favorite roasted vegetables but with a different spice combination than I usually use (garam masala and hot honey among others — see where this is going?) and I devoured it!
At the same time I was making that dish, I roasted some brussels sprouts using garam masala and added some of the hot honey, and I never looked back!
The brussels sprouts were warming, cozy and so delicious!
And naturally gluten-free! A perfect side dish!
So let’s make the Crispy Spiced Brussels Sprouts with Hot Honey!
Like I mentioned, it is an easy gluten-free recipe. Just 5 minutes hands-on prep!
All you need is:
brussels sprouts
garam masala
kosher salt
olive oil
honey
cayenne pepper (or you can purchase hot honey though I never have)
If you’ve never cooked with garam masala, it is an Indian spice blend that is warming, fragrant and has lots of layers of flavor. The ingredients in the garam masala in our spice cabinet, for instance, includes cumin, pepper, cinnamon and cardamon to mention a few of the spices. The overall profile is warming and flavorful, but not spicy as in “hot spicy”.
To make the brussels sprouts, first cut them in half lengthwise or purchase them already sliced (just make sure they are all halved… I often purchase the pre-cut ones for convenience but very often, I need to cut a few of them myself).
Place the halved brussels sprouts on the baking sheet and toss with olive oil, garam masala and kosher salt. Then arrange in a single layer so that none of the brussels sprouts are touching.
Roast at 400 degrees F on the top shelf for 25- 30 minutes or until the brussels sprouts are golden and crispy!
Then make your hot honey by simple adding a pinch of cayenne to the honey and mix to combine. Here there is room to adjust to taste and add more or less cayenne according to your preference.
Drizzle the crispy roasted brussels sprouts with the hot honey and enjoy!
A simple, flavor and easy gluten-free side dish!
And leftovers reheat well in skillet the next day, or if you’re a brussels sprouts fan like me, you may find yourself eating leftovers cold, straight from the refrigerator!
Hope you love them as much as we do!
