Garlicky Sesame-Cured Broccoli Salad

We got this recipe for Garlicky Sesame-Cured Broccoli Salad years ago from a friend and have been making it ever since.

It is a crowd pleaser and so simple to make. You simply heat up olive oil, sesame oil, lots of garlic and other spices then pour over raw broccoli.  The hot oil steams the broccoli a bit so the it’s al dente with the perfect amount crunch!  And the broccoli is bursting with flavor! Highly munchable and addictive!

Can be prepped ahead and stays for days.

Garlicky Sesame-Cured Broccoli Salad

Easy to prepare, perfectly "cooked" but crunchy broccoli, bursting with flavor! Highly munchable and addictive!

  • 1½ teaspoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt, or to taste
  • 2 heads broccoli, 1 pound each, cut into bite-size florets
  • ¾ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 fat garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons cumin seeds
  • 2 teaspoons roasted sesame oil
  • Large pinch crushed red pepper flakes
Note: I often cut recipe in half
  1. In a large bowl, stir together the vinegar and the salt
  2. Add broccoli and toss to combine
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil until hot but not smoking
  4. Add garlic and cumin and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute
  5. Stir in sesame oil and pepper flakes
  6. Pour mixture over broccoli and toss well
  7. Let sit for at least 1 hour at room temperature
  8. Chill if you want to keep for more than 2 hours
  9. Serve at room temp
