Why make your own fries?

While potatoes are naturally gluten-free, when prepared as fries at restaurants you have to be careful if you’re following a gluten-free diet because of celiac disease.

Sometimes potato fries are coated with a coating that contains flour to make them crispier, and hence not gluten-free.

And oftentimes, they are fried in a shared fried with other gluten-containing items rendering them not safe for those with celiac disease.

But when you make them at home, you control the ingredients and they are an EASY gluten-free side dish!

So let’s make them!

All you need is

potatoes (think approximately 1 per person depending on how big they are)

avocado oil, olive oil or oil of choice

and kosher salt

There are some simple tips for making perfect fries:

  • Make sure the potatoes are well dried after scrubbing off any dirt
  • No matter what size you cut them, cut them as evenly as possible so that they cook evenly

  • Make sure they are well coated but not dripping in oil and place on an un-greased baking sheet or baking sheet covered in parchment paper.
  • Place them on the baking sheet so that they are not touching so that they can get crispy.
