How to Make Gluten-Free Croutons

Making gluten-free croutons is quick + easy!

The key is starting with a great baguette (or roll or ciabatta bread) and not over baking them.

We used a baguette from Everybody Eats NYC (not an affiliate link — we just love Everybody Eats NYC— they deliver nationwide).

Other brands we like include Schar and Against the Grain baguettes. We’ve also made them rolls from Modern Bread and Bagel — the key is have a thick bread you can cut into cubes.

You will need the following ingredients

gluten-free baguettes or rolls or ciabatta bread (you want thick gluten-free bread)

olive oil

parsley flakes

garlic powder

ground oregano

dried rosemary

ground basil

kosher salt

pepper

Step by Step How to Make Gluten-Free Croutons

They come together in just 5-10 minutes in 3 simple steps.

1. Cut the bread into 3/4 inch pieces

2. In a large bowl, and toss with olive oil, then add spices and toss.

3. Place tossed and coated bread cubes in a single layer, not touching, on a baking sheet, and bake.

Then bake for just 10-12 minutes!

They will get crisp and golden but still be tender in the center.

Pro tip: You don’t want to over bake them as gluten-free bread hardens a lot when it cools.

And they taste so good!

They have great savory flavor!

You can also switch up the flavor by skipping any of the spices.

One super simple flavor combo is to just kosher salt and parsley flakes and it so delicious!

Ingredients

Gluten-Free Croutons

  • 4 cups cubed gluten-free baguette, cut in approximately 3/4 inch cubes approximately two baguettes; gluten-free rolls or ciabatta bread is great too -- you just want to use thick gluten-free bread.
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon parsley flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

How to Make Gluten-Free Croutons

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper if using.
  • In a large bowl toss cubed bread, drizzle with olive oil and toss to coat. Sprinkle with spices, and toss to coat. Spread on prepared baking sheet so that the bread cubes are not touching.
  • Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden on edges and still very slightly soft in center -- you don't want them too crispy as they will get too hard as they cool. The time variation is based on thickness of bread.
For crunchier interiors, bake up to 15 minutes but make sure the croutons are still a little soft in the middle when you take them out of the oven as they harden as they cool.
  • Best served day of, but stay fresh if stored in a sealed container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Enjoy with salads, soups or anytime!
