Holiday cookie baking is serious business in our family!
We have many different cookies we make each year –recipes that have been handed down from family and friends–and we bake large quantities, then give them away as gifts.
In fact, there are people that literally email or call to make sure they are still on the list each year… the cookies are that good!
And we also have an annual Cookie Baking Day which has been a tradition since I was a kid.
It involves family and friends baking alllll day, so many cookies! And it’s one of my favorite days of the holiday season!
For the last 18 years, Cookie Baking Day has included a core 14 of us –family and longtime friends, and the crew includes 6 teens who have been baking together since they were babies.
Two of them (non-related friends) were diagnosed with celiac disease 10 years ago and we’ve been baking our family recipes Gluten-Free ever since.
2020 is the first year we are skipping Cookie Baking Day in as long as I can remember!
We bake mostly family recipes we’ve been making forever — and each has a story.
The original recipes are classic butter & sugar but they all adapt well to be dairy-free, and many are easily made vegan too.
And now we make them all gluten-free!
Plus we have some new additions in recent years!
And Roll Out Sugar Cookies which we make only on Cookie Baking Day!
Each of us has a favorite but they are all SO YUMMY!
