Shrimp Marinara over Spaghetti

Simple, Yummy & Satisfying!

Every summer we share a rental beach house with my family…. there are 10 of us and we cook dinner most nights. We share the cooking responsibilities but try to keep it really simple to minimize work and clean up!

Shrimp (and sometimes scallops too) Marinara is one our our classic go to dinners.  We make a quick and easy marinara sauce (this can be ahead of time but we often find ourselves making it when we come of the beach for the day), then when we’re ready to eat, we just cook up spaghetti and cook the shrimp and scallops in the sauce.  Paired with a simple salad and dinner is served!

It’s a meal that pleases everyone.  Some eat lots of shrimp, some scallops, some both and some just eat the pasta with marinara sauce and a big salad.

A easy, low maintenance meal that's always a crowd pleaser. Sometimes we make it with scallops as well so feel free to adapt to tastes!

Serves: serves 4
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1-2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 containers chopped or strained tomatoes depending on tastes (we use Pomi 26.46 oz) (If you're feeding a large crowd, you could add a 3rd container and it works equally well)
  • 1 6oz can tomato paste (we use Muir Glen because it's Gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil + a handful of fresh basil, chopped if you have on hand
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: crushed red pepper
  • 1 lb large shrimp, cleaned (approximately 26-30 shrimp)
  • 1 12 box Gluten-free spaghetti of choice
Marinara Sauce
  1. Heat olive oil in large sauté pan
  2. Sauté garlic in olive oil 2-3 min until just starting to brown
  3. Add tomatoes, tomato paste and basil
  4. Add salt and pepper to taste
  5. Simmer sauce at least 30 minutes (can be made ahead)
Shrimp and Spaghetti
  1. When ready to eat, prepare spaghetti according to package
  2. Cook cleaned shrimp in the sauce for 7-10 minutes, until tender
  3. NOTE: You could do this with scallops as well but scallops don't cook as long, only need 3-5 minutes cooking time.
  1. In a large bowl toss cooked spaghetti with several large spoonfuls of sauce and cooked shrimp, extra sauce for serving.

  1. This is such an easy recipe to make and it tasted delicious! I added asparagus to the pasta and it was a great combination. I can’t wait to make it again!
