Savory and delicious!

We have many sauce recipes but this is our simplest and easiest.

We use it over pasta or ravioli, and when making other Italian dishes like eggplant or chicken parmesan or lasagna.

Super easy to make, it tastes great and the house smells amazing while it simmers.

Sauce freezes well too, so we enjoy it the first day and freeze in individual containers so my son can dethaw and heat up as needed.

Simple Tomato Sauce

Our simple tomato sauce used for pasta, eggplant and chicken parmesan, lasagna and just about any other simple Italian dish. Easy to make and makes the house smell amazing while it simmers. Freezes well.
Course: Sides
Cuisine: Gluten-Free, Vegan
Author: Healthy Gluten-free Family

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2-4 Garlic cloves minced (Depending on size of garlic and preference. My family loves garlic!)
  • 2 6 oz Plain gluten-free tomato paste we use Muir Glen these days
  • 2 Tomato purée we use Pomi Strained Tomatoes, 26.46oz
  • 1 -2 tablespoon Dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt or taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Pepper or to taste
  • Garlic powder optional, sometimes I'll add a pinch after it's simmered a bit if looking for more flavor
  • Water as needed

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil under medium heat
  • Sauté garlic until fragrant and just starting to brown
  • Add tomato paste & stir in with olive oil
  • Add tomato puree & stir together (If you want to make more or less, stick with ratio of 1 paste:1 puree)
  • Add 1 cup of water or more till desired thickness
  • Add dried basil, salt and pepper.
  • Simmer for at least an hour, the longer the better
  • Taste and add additional seasoning as desired, and add water as desired if you want a thinner sauce. When cooking a sauce, the flavor of the particular tomato puree or paste will affect taste of sauce, so it's important to taste and adjust as needed.
